Well, If I'm not mistaken this'll be FUULS third Dreyfest. Welcome back!! For those hapless few who haven't met the band, who is FUULS?
FUULS, is a collective mind, one part wild rumpus, a touch of Hamms, a touch of Cola, a touch of diversity. FUULS is a moose in a field of whitetail in the city park, confused (Why is there a Moose with deer in the city?)
Ah, the Missoula music scene...how's it going these days, any updates for us wandering in the desert?
The scene? FUULS see’s everything.. Missoula is a scene that’s lack of direction is a positive. It is typical to see genre show blends as if a tasty smoothie that would you buy at a tasty smoothie spot. Maybe someone brings kale (Cairns), we bring the mangos (FUULS), they bring the protein powder (Power Plant) with a garnish of fresh mint (Thin Truk).
Your live performances have been the stuff of Montana lore. Should we expect more of that beautiful, beautiful verve from FUULS? You haven't gotten soft have you...?
We are soft, always soft, never will stop being soft. We don’t stale, always tender. Sometimes, tasty. We provoke the sense’s with our soft edge. Hopefully to inspire uncompromising softness, to all who see. What to expect from us? Beauty (Thom), the Beast (Aaron), the kettle (Rob). All dancing to the sounds of the celebration. As symbolic anthropomorphized Disney characters singing ironically about how capitalism is lame, whilst asking money for t-shirts to get back home.
What are each of the band member's favorite sounds? Some disturbing ASMR you guys like to get down too?
As far as ASMR, steaming milk, always. We are addicted to the bean juice paired with the steamed milk. The sounds, oh geeze. We collectively “get down” to a bit of everything. We take influences from friends far and wide. Whether it be odd compositions like Panther Car, Moon Honey (RIP), or passionate performances like Bull Market, we like the give back the energy we take in. Our environment at home and abroad plays a huge role in how we write and how we feel. We want to show resilience to our community, and speak up for human issues that hit home to us directly or from a distance.
I'm not, like, trying to steal band secrets or anything but do you fellas have any tips for aspiring musicians?
Keep at it, be patient with others and yourself, be respectful, play with others, form friendships, be a listener.
(Question for Aaron) So what's the consensus on Drake at Raptor's games? Is it too much or tasteful?
(Rob here taking over). Raptors for life, raptors of ever, raptors raptors raptors. Wow x3, If you like the Raptors your doing the right thing. Drake included.
Has FUULS changed their mind at all in view of moving to a bigger city and finally taking over the world with amplified gee-tars and drums pummeled to shit?
FUULS is pretty cozy right now, we support our home and our community. The future has yet to be written, but we are all happy to be apart of a supportive environment . Our next (logical) step is more recording, and touring.
Anything that you guys are excited about for this year's Dreyfest? Perhaps Nels Jensen's legendary BBQ sauce???
*Collective telepathic drooling*
What? Yes? Nels BBQ sauce? Insert into our collective faces, and various BBQ goods. FUULS can safely concur telepathically that Dreyfest is a second home, and such a solid representation of the MT music scene. Mainly we are stoked to hang and see our friends. Seeing where everyone is at with the projects is very refreshing and inspiring.
You guys released It's a Secret last year. Any new releases we should be expecting coming into our peripheries?
We have a split with boyfriends, and Tiny Plastic Stars coming out soon! Very excited to share the next step into what is hopefully our next Full Length LP, which songs will be featured at Dreyfest. We are recording the split with our dearest pal Alex, and are so excited to share it with you all.
Will FUULS pretty, pretty please with sprinkles on top play "Hell No Mephisto?" And please don't say "Hell no!"
(Rob here again HI!) FUULS can play this jingle, if accompanied by some-form of a (tasteful) dance off, lasers, sentient android bartenders, a bar tab, and maybe a few pints of Nel’s famous BBQ sauce. Hell No Mephisto, aka No Refunds, aka Forigen Devils, aka the Last Waltz will be played if the conditions above apply. FUULS will not play said song if there is any indoor JUUL’n.
