Julia Louis-Dreyfest Interviews Jan Miller

August 06, 2018 in Interview, Comedy

by Will Thomas

Jan Miller got her start in comedy by losing a bet shortly after moving to Bozeman, MT. She is originally from Denver, CO and is a quiet introvert with big dreams of folklore fame. You can find her wounding egos and ruining weddings across Montana with her feminist, witty, and real-life humor.

Ok, so Jan, how long have you been doing comedy?

I started doing comedy in August of 2017. I had been thinking about it for at least a year before that but couldn’t get over my stage fright. Eventually it turned into a bet and I had to do it!

Great! Can’t back off of those bets now. So, what’s a typical day in your life?

In the summer I spend most of my time hiking and camping. But, in the winter my quilting problem comes out and I watch a lot of TV.

Nothing like a little relaxation with the quilt. So, while you’re couchsurfing, What’s the better condiment, sriracha or salsa?

Oh no. I feel like I can’t let salsa down in this moment but sriracha is surprisingly good on hotdogs and cheezits...so sriracha.

You heard it here folks! Sriracha: 1 Salsa: 0. Ok, so if you had a superpower, what would it be?

If I could have any superpower, I would be able to dance like Michael Jackson.

That’s a grand power! You could move mountains with that. Speaking of moving, Where’s the farthest you've traveled for comedy?

About 140 miles. I live in Bozeman but I got my start in comedy through the Billings comedy scene.

Whats your favorite tongue twister?

“To sit in solemn silence in a dull, dark, dock. In a pestilential prison, with a life-long lock. Awaiting the sensation of a short, sharp, shock from a cheap and chippy chopper on a big, black, block.“  I learned it in middle school theatre and it always stuck with me.

That…No. I’m not even going to try. I dare you say that on the mic! What would you want to see changed in the comedy world?

If I could never hear the words, “She’s funny for a girl” again, that would be cool. People are funny. Women are people.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Lastly Jan, if money was no object, where would you go?

Antartica.

Well, that’s about all I have for you today Jan. Can’t wait to hang out with you and all the other comics on Aug 11th!
