"The name my parents gave me is Matthew J. O'brien. The name I gave my sound project is thievesbreakin. The name I gave to the piece for the show is HOW TO ALMOST DROWN. The name i gave my muses are death and love. The name I gave my cat is spooky."
Matthew O’Brien is inspired by love and death, mostly. He’s the kind of gent who looks for contrast, and knows that humans need one another to survive.
“Each and every one of us has a profound impact not only on those that surround us but on all of everything.”
For O’Brien, part of being a great artist is being sensitive to the world around you, “and in that state I think the artist takes on a lot of the beauty that surrounds them.
His ideal blind date would be Marilyn Monroe. “We could talk about the Kennedys and I could tell her about being a funeral director, and then we would probably french.”
Catch him performing Friday at Craft Local, 2413 Montana Ave.
