One nice thing about having a smaller, more intimate scene is the fact that many people around town know people that come to shows in, let’s just say, a “different light.” You might work at the same joint as that dude that plays drums in that stoner rock band and constantly rag on your boss’s managerial style. Or you might walk your dogs down the same sidewalks as that noise rock chick and briefly stop to talk about that crazy neighbor and the 300 lawn gnomes in his yard. Or, maybe, just maybe, you taught some of these scene kids and you’d like to know how much they retained in your class years later:
How did the United States become a country? Secondly… how did The Stand Ins become a band?
Firstly, the U.S. became a country on July 4, 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed. Nels, the band was made last august by Trevor and Henry with nothing but a dream and guitars.
Define Manifest Destiny, and explain what The Stand Ins destiny is:
Manifest Destiny was the excuse for westward expansion, as if it was the destiny of America to expand. The Stand Ins destiny is to one day be able to afford to do music as a full time job. Hayden, our beautiful drummer, thinks we can do something with this.
Andrew Jackson was usually seen as a “hero” or a “zero”. What was he to you? Also, Jared Benge, “hero” or “zero” and why?
We certainly think Jackson was a zero because of his political antics and not doing anything good for the people. Jared Benge, however, is a hero and could beat Hamilton in a 1v1.
What are some specific causes of the American Civil War? What are some specific reasons you wanted to play Dreyfest this year? Anyone you’re excited to see?
This Civil War was caused, centrally, by slavery and the different views of it. You had people of the North with things like Uncle Tom's Cabin and the South with James Brown Revolt. We wanted to play Dreyfest because it sounded fun. We are excited for out of town bands we have never seen and, of course, our favorite local bands, Snow Bored and Bull Market.
Enough of these history questions, what do you think the future has in store for the United States? Also, what does the future hold for The Stand Ins?
The future of the United States will be an end like with any great country. The future of the band will be an end, but hopefully one far in the future.
Our president, when asked, clearly didn’t know about the Nuclear Triad. Do you? What don’t people know about The Stand Ins (that we should know)?
Well Nels, we didn't know about anything of our president and the nuclear triad. We know what the triad is, but we never thought of it in current events. Something about us people may not know, well there are several things. Hayden used to be a Soviet Russian ballerina. Trevor invented the sport of surf skate; where you sound cool not being able to do tricks. Henry watches the original Star Trek almost every day. Also, we think that you Nels, could beat anyone in a shred off.
