Let’s start traditionally: Who are you, where are you from, what do play… and why on earth would you want to play Dreyfest?
We are a Wyobraska trashpunk supergroup consisting of members from at least one hundred other different bands. Most of our members are from Casper. Brandon Schulte (Juice Falcon) and Spike Jordan (Piss Listener) played Dreyfest last summer with another band. Spike lives in Western Nebraska and was on probation at the time. He had to pull a lot of strings to be able to make it up, but it was such a blast that we decided to shoot for a spot again this year.
Spike is an agriculture journalist and brought up the concept of penny auctions. During the Great Depression, banks that foreclosed on farms would hold auctions and neighbors would gather in large numbers to bid very low prices on the farm and its contents while intimidating other bidders. In the end, the bank that owned the farm would get whatever was bid and the neighbors would return the farm and its contents to the farmer. Seemed like a rad name.
Casper may seem to us Montana folk to be just another Wyoming cow-town… but it has quite a bit of music history… and still seems to have a thriving scene with good bands. How? What makes Casper different from Green River?
Fewer Mormons. But more people in general, and that helps cultivate a scene. Not that there isn't anything at all happening in smaller communities in WY... The 90's in Casper were a real swell time, and the punk scene was pretty big so Fat Wreck and Hopeless and lots of those punk labels sent lots of their bands to play here. Still to this day Casper is a great place to create, as an artist or musician might not find themselves quite as bombarded with stuff. I have found that less stimuli leans itself to more introspection.
Could you name a role Julia Louis Dreyfus has played (besides Elaine)?
The housewife in the Poolboy sketch with Pete Davidson on SNL.
If Brandon’s mustache had a name, what would it be?
Fun fact is that the mustache is actually Brandon Schulte. We’ve never really bothered to ask who the tall dude with the deep voice attached to it is.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing at Dreyfest?
Powerplant from Missoula was Brandon and Spike’s favorite from last year’s Dreyfest and we’re hoping the stars align and we get to see them again. We’re also hooking in with our South Dakota pals Friends of Cesar Romero from Rapid City and Purple Honey from Spearfish for a few shows before we all hit Billings, so it should be a wild and fun time.
We’re also close personal friends of Keith Martinez (Joe, Jake and Brandon have all played as Keith’s backing band with Zenitram Family Vacation), and Shane De Leon of Miss Massive Snowflake (Shane has come down to Casper a couple of times and Keith, Shane and Jeanne shared a bill with Piss Listener for our first show in Casper last year).
