Julia Louis-Dreyfest Interviews Blake Helis

August 01, 2018 in Interview, Visual Art

by Mary Kate Teske

You have to eat 420 chicken nuggets, 666 pickles, or 69 tacos in a bag. You mow down on?

I'd take 333 pickles and 210 chicken nuggets. Honestly, it's hard to choose between the two.

Where are you from and what nickname do you have for your town?

I'm originally from Washington D.C./Maryland area, and I guess we called it "The District" or "Home"

How many years have you been tattooing?

I've been on and off tattooing for 4 years now, designing and apprenticing more than anything.

For the rest of your life you have to cut your hair in either a mullet, or a reversed mohawk. Which look is more "you."

The look of the mullet would be more my style.

You bathe in hot dog water every night, which gives your skin a great sheen and excellent resilience, but everyone keeps making jabs at you because you smell like hot dog water. Basically, you're pretty and sparkle like Edward, but smell weird and everyone calls you, ______, because of this.

'Hot Dog' (very strange question, which took a lot of thought.)

What's something you can't go a day without?

I can't go a day without a good book of poetry.

Come by look for Blake's art at the various venues for Dreyfest!
