Matchup of the Week

Scott (6-4, 2nd Mountain)

V

Chris (8-2, 1st Mountain)

What huge matchup we have here!!! Our reigning back-to-back champ takes on the best team in the league this year. Our resident Shitheel has had a year for the franchise record books and is officially the first to clinch the playoffs. Congrats! But, there is still much on the line between these two teams this week. If Scott finds a way to win, he’ll only be a game back of Chris for the division crown and one of the top two seeds. Many of us left Scott for dead after a 4 game losing streak, but the Champ ain’t done yet. Chris can basically (not officially) lock up the division and number one seed with a win.

Commish’s prediction: Scott shocks the world (and himself) and makes the division race more interesting. Chris acts like he doesn’t care, which he does.

Commish (3-7, 5th Pacific)

V

Jake (6-4, 4th 3rd Mountain)

This matchup has become quite the budding rivalry. Two Billings Boys trying to exert dominance over which part of the Magic City is better (the West End obviously). The Wizard has had quite the rookie season and is in a prime spot to make a run in the playoffs and, heck, the division is still within reach. The Commish, well, the Commish has had a rough year. Currently sitting at dead last this is a must win game to keep playoff hopes alive (he’s never missed the playoffs in 11 years of this league). Whoever wins this will make sure the other person is well aware of the outcome.

The Commish’s prediction: The Commish comes up clutch late in the season like usual and The Wizard cries alone in his wizard hut.

Josh (4-6, 4th Pacific)

V

Nam (6-4, 1st Pacific)

Here we have another important division matchup, this time in the Pacific. Josh is clinging to life to stay in the playoff picture hoping to avoid the Commish’s ridicule if he misses. And there will be much ridicule. Lucky for Josh his team has been coming to life in this second half of the season. Nam has consistently been one of the best teams this year despite acting like he’s been a victim at every turn (you should see the whining that comes through my texts). If he wins, he still has a shot at the number one overall seed, albeit a small chance after losing to Chris. At this point I feel like whatever happens, Nam will still be unhappy until he’s Champ (so, maybe forever).

The Commish’s prediction: Nam continues his formidable season and puts Josh another step closer to the brink of loserdom.

Laura (4-6, 3rd Pacific)

V

Austin (5-5, 2nd Pacific)

Krampus magic takes on the Witch! After starting the season strong and on another unbelievable run, Austin’s chaotic management style seems to be catching up to him as he is currently in the midst of a 3 game losing streak. Maybe the lack of disturbing Krampus AI art in the league chat has actually negatively affected his mojo this year. Laura on the other hand finally has something going winning 4 of her last 7 after starting the year in the dumps. Her team isn’t great, but she’s whipped up just enough witchy magic to still be in the hunt for a playoff spot.

The Commish’s prediction: Krampus rears his head once again and his Krampus magic proves too much for the Witch. And then the Commish has to deal with the fallout.

Kyle (3-7, 5th Mountain)

V

Jeremy (5-5, 4th Mountain)

This is a much more interesting matchup than I originally thought. Long time veteran Kyle sits right below the cutoff line for the playoffs, and is hoping for a late season miracle. Rookie Jeremy’s team has scored lots of points this year, but he’s only been able to manage a .500 record so far. A win by Kyle knocks Jeremy into danger of missing the playoffs and gives Kyle new hope. A win by Jeremy helps solidify his playoff spot and gives the Commish new hope. Both of these teams have high scoring potentials, so this is a matchup to keep an eye on.

The Commish’s prediction: Jeremy’s team shows up to play with some big wiener dog energy and knocks Kyle back down to the pit of despair, giving the Commish some new life.
