Week 12

Let’s take a look at some of the big matchups this week and some of the storylines surrounding them. I know you all want to hear mostly about me and my triumphs, but it’s only fair that I share the spotlight.

Matchup of the Week

Laura (1-7, 5th Pacific)

V

Scott (2-6, 5th Mountain)

This might be our season’s first true toilet bowl. These two squads have combined for a record of 3-13. So, why is the matchup of the week you ask? Because it features our three-time reigning champ in the midst of his decline, and I so wanted to highlight that. And, this might be the only time Laura sees her team at the top of an update this season. Sorry, boo.

Both of these teams are holding on to the last scrap of playoff hopes, and whoever wins might just turn their season around. I mean, with Nam the current #8 seed it’s not hard to imagine either of them can catch that squad (please reference power rankings). It’s Mormon magic v Pagan magic, who will reign supreme???

The Commish’s prediction: Laura finally breaks the curse of bad matchups and sends Scott into a tailspin that he never recovers from.

Chris (4-4, 2nd Mountain)

V

Nam (3-5, 5th Pacific)

This is a pivotal matchup for both of these squads. Also, I think the imagery fits quite well. Nam and Chris are in the thick of a pile of dog shit rosters trying to find any stable ground. A win for Nam puts Chris in real danger of the playoff bubble, which I do like. I’ve yet to see him have to deal with not making the playoffs and I think it would be fun.

The Commish’s prediction: Despite my preference for a Shitheel loss, Chris probably gets a decisive win as Nam is left scrambling to stay in a playoff spot.

Josh (6-2, 1st Pacific)

Jake (4-4, 4th Mountain)

A matchup of a couple heavy hitters right here! Josh is coming off a crushing blow to the Commish last week while Jake is dealing with half of his team on bye this week (because his team is literally half Buccaneers players). The Wizard is also trying to stop a two game slide right now. Both of these teams can light up the scoreboard, but is Josh’s firepower too much??? Can the Wizard brave the Elknado that’s coming his way???

The Commish’s prediction: The loss of his Buccaneer identity this week is too much for Jake to stop Josh’s mighty squad from rebounding.

Jeremy (7-1, 1st Mountain)

V

Austin (5-3, 2nd Pacific)

Wiener Dog Man meets his most puzzling matchup yet in the Krampus Man. Jeremy hasn’t lost since the opening week, and it hasn’t even been close. Austin is on a three game winning streak and his roster chaos magic is in full effect. This might be the most interesting matchup of the week and if Austin can pull off a win, he might be our new top team.

The Commish’s prediction: Jeremy’s win streak finally comes to an end at the gnarled hand of Krampus, and Austin makes us all quiver in fear.

Kyle (4-4, 3rd Mountain)

The Commish (4-4, 3rd Pacific)

What a turnaround so far for the OGs of this league! Last year was one to forget as both founding franchises missed the playoffs amidst absolutely horrendous seasons. Now, they’re back with a vengeance upon all those who doubted their worth. But, first, these Billings Boys must square off in the battle of the Magic City. Who takes another step toward returning to the playoffs? Who slips back toward the abyss?

The Commish’s prediction: Do you expect me to pick against myself??? I have done it in the past, but not this time. The Commish is riding high (from winning AND marijuana) and there’s no way he’s losing this week.
